I’ve never met a salted caramel anything I wouldn’t eat.  I found Fleur de Sel Caramel Sauce at Trader Joe’s last week.  So I grabbed it, natch.

I’ve had this pie crust in the fridge begging to be baked.  So last night, I relented.

Here is the result…

Back to the business of pie!

The crust is the same from this post.

cut pie crust
Roll it out to about  1/4″ thick.  Cut in to “pop tart” sized rectangles.  Cut one and use it as your template for the rest.

2014-11-06 19.17.58-1You can also cut larger rectangles and fold in over into a this size like this one here.  Top with chopped green apples and drizzle with caramel sauce.

2014-11-07 08.52.05 chopped caramel and applesJust in case you can’t find caramel sauce, I also did a few with chopped Brock’s caramels and added a bit of the Maldon Sea Salt that I used in this post.  This worked well too.

Salted Caramel Apple Hand Pies

Prep time: 20 minutes Cook time: 20 minutes Yield: 10 individual pies
Ingredients
  • Use the pie crust recipe from the Apple Galette post.
  • 2 Granny Smith Apples
  • 1 jar salted caramel sauce; or 15 caramel pieces and sea salt flakes like Maldon Sea Salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Chop apples and caramels.
  3. Roll out pie crust to ¼" thickness
  4. Cut in to rectangles.
  5. Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  6. Top with apples and caramel sauce or caramel pieces.
  7. Cover with second piece of pie crust.
  8. Press all sides of the pie with the tines of a fork to seal.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

This is a great dessert or breakfast treat.  The crust keeps for two weeks in the refrigerator so it’s easy to keep on hand.
