Skiing at Whistler Blackcomb

Canada Goose Kensington in GrayScandinave Spa in Whistler BC Wanderlust Wednesday is back and taking you to Whistler, BC, Canada. Last time I told you how in Inspirato changed the way we vacation. Our Spring Break trip to Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort  is a great example of that. My husband loves to ski and grew up taking trips with his family. My family is more of a warm weather crowd so I have never skied until Scott and I got married. I wanted my girls to learn to ski at a young age because learning at 26 was not fun! As a result, they have each been on skis by the time they were three years old.

We love to ski in Telluride and spend summers there, too, but felt like since the girls were older we can branch out a bit more. Whistler had always been on our list but didn’t know the first thing about it or anyone who had ever been there. Because it is part of the Inspirato portfolio it was a no-brainer.

We stayed in a suite at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. It is located at the foot of the Blackcomb Mountain, part of the Whistler Blackcomb ski area. This place exceeded all of our expectations!  Due to a spinal/neck surgery, I had not skied in 10 years but this place was so beautiful I could not wait to get out there.  It was amazing to ski above the clouds!

One of the best things about Whistler is that it is basically at sea level so there is no altitude adjustment.  So many people have a difficult time with altitude sickness. I’ve experienced it twice in other locations and it is absolutely miserable.  We were so surprised that there was no adjustment at all.  That’s a fantastic way to start a trip to the mountains!

Inspirato planned every detail of this trip for us. From arranging all of our ski rentals and providing our sizing information to the rental desk downstairs and helping us purchase discounted lift tickets to making dinner reservations based on our food allergies and the restaurants ability to handle them, our travel team managed it all.

Whistler Blackcomb is a great family ski area.  There is a gondola at that connects the two peaks so you have 8100 acres of skiable terrain.  It is pretty evenly divided between beginner intermediate an expert with 200 runs and more than half are groomed.  As you can see in the photos, we had incredible snow!  It snowed several feet the week we were there.

We mostly skied on the Blackcomb side of the resort as it seemed much less crowded.  The Fairmont provided a great home base with wonderful apres ski, an indoor/outdoor pool and great spa.  Having the rentals just down stairs made getting out the door to ski so easy.  Loved the warm boots each morning!  They even have ski huts on the mountain for trading equipment and getting a tune up should you need an adjustment due to changing snow conditions.

When you visit Whistler, you must go to Scandinave Spa.  It is a beautiful outdoor spa with Scandinavian thermal baths and cold plunge pools as well as traditional spa services.  The setting among the pine trees and snow is simply magical.  I wish I had gone earlier in the week so I could have gone twice.  It is a great couples spa as men enjoy this experience as well.

A few of our favorite restaurants are Araxi, a fine dining experience where the menu is creative and every dish was fabulous; Bar Oso for great drinks and tapas and the Crepe Montagne for authentic French crepes with gourmet fillings for entrees and dessert.

If you are going skiing for Spring Break, be sure to check the great sales and new gear at Saint Bernard.  My Canada Goose Kensington Jacket coat above was perfect for apres ski and checking out Whistler Village.  I wear it to chilly soccer games at home.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the special offer for my readers from Inspirato.  You can have access to the Inspirato portfolio and experience their great service for six months with no membership fees.  Click here to request more information.

Thank you to Inspirato and Saint Bernard for sponsoring this post.  All opinions are my own.  Photos are my own other than Scandinave Spa as they don’t allow photography.

Love Whistler! We stayed at the Four Seasons and it was wonderful, as well. I’d also suggest anyone stop by Crystal Hut at the top of Blackcomb for their famous waffle bar! Fun way to start the day. Beautiful pictures!
