In honor of one of my best friend’s 20th wedding anniversary, I’m dreaming of an Italian getaway, too! Scott and I went to Portofino and stayed at the Belmond Splendido on our first European vacation a few years after we were married. It is such a romantic spot. Relaxed and beautiful. Charming and luxurious.
Dinner on the terrace provides a view unlike any other. The yachts leaving Portofino looked as they were flying in to the blue sky as you can not tell where the sea ends and the sky begins. We have amazing memories from here. We were there the day that Frank Sinatra died (yes, I just aged myself). That night dancing on the terrace with newly made friends from around the world was just magical.
The grounds of the hotel are so beautiful and afford the most incredible views of the Mediterranean. After a late breakfast, the 10 minute walk down the hill to the village of Portofino takes you back in time.
The colors of the region are ochre and umber and each home is painted to reflect the families style. The village is filled with quaint shops and cafes. A great place to pick up an authentic Italian leather good and have the best cappuccino of your life.
A few things I’d pack if I were the one going today…
