We are about to leave on what I really think will be the trip of a lifetime with Natural World Safaris! So people have said that about this trip to South Africa. I shared all the details with you on our itinerary and NWS last week.
As I always do, I want to share my packing list and outfit inspiration with you in a dedicated post. These are some of the most popular posts on the website. So many of you refer to them over and over again when you visit any of these destinations.
It is been a little bit tricky to try to pack for this since we will be going to two very different places. First we will spend three days in Cape Town at One and Only Cape Town, Cape Grace, and Ellerman House, then two days in the South African Winelands at La Residence. Next, we will fly north to spend four days on safari at two beautiful private reserves, Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge and Royal Malewane. Packing for a 10 day trip can be overwhelming to begin with but going vastly different places and meeting different wardrobes is definitely tricky. I am doing my best to pare it down and take only what I need.
We are not limited to a certain weight because we are not taking light, private aircraft between the two reserves. They are close enough that we are able to drive. That’s great for me because I am a bit of an over packer! When I travel internationally though I really do think through everything and then throw in two more outfits. Ha! Ha!
I am breaking this packing list down into two posts. First, I will share what I’m bringing to Cape Town and the Winelands. The next post will be what I’m packing for the Safari.
For long haul flights, I always try to wear something super comfortable. I am wearing this jumpsuit. It is seriously so soft and feels like pajamas! It is super chic as well and I can wear it during the day sightseeing too. I’m adding this cardigan that I have worn many times. This is a great travel dress as well.
We will land in the morning in Cape Town and head straight to the One and Only Cape Town on the historic V&A Waterfront. This day will be spent getting our bearings in this beautiful location and walking around the waterfront. I’ll most likely wear white top and jeans so I can go from day to night if we don’t get back to the hotel for dinner. One of photographers, Mary, told me of an incredible restaurant that doesn’t take reservations so we are going to try to get in there.
The next morning, we will head out with a private guide for a walking tour of the waterfront, art galleries and Table Mountain. Cape Town is known for its gale force winds so I will definitely be dressed in layers. A trench is the perfect jacket for this day. I’ll also be tucking this quilted jacket or even a vest into my go-to bag for sightseeing. I’ll be wearing each of these on the Safari as well.
The next day will be filled with more sightseeing driving to Cape Peninsula and visiting Boulders Beach to see the famous penguin colony there.
As I shared with you in the 24 Things About Us post I love to go to dinner so I brought some pretty dresses like this and this for each evening. We will also be celebrating our anniversary on this trip so we will have some special dinners as well.
Next we will spend two days in the South African Winelands were some of the best wines in the world are made. I’ve packed cute tops, maxi skirts, jeans, and dresses for this part of our trip.
In the boutique below have linked all of the items I’m taking as well as other inspiration and other options for each of the items. I will continually update this post so that it is always filled with fresh inspiration that’s available for your trips.
I hope this is helpful whether you are packing for Cape Town and the South African Winelands or a sightseeing trip any town with cooler weather this summer…think San Francisco or London. Which reminds me, I still need to post my itinerary for Edinburg and St. Andrews I’ve promised many of you! Stay tuned!
I hope you will follow along on Instagram and Instagram stories over the next two weeks. I will not be posting here on the blog other than the Safari packing list, but instead, sharing our daily activities on Instagram instead. When I return, I will of course summarize each destination and a blog post as well as a round up post on what I wore for each destination.
Now, I’m off to finish packing!
xo
