When I shared this post last year it became one of the most popular of the summer! As I know there is still much uncertainty around colleges, many are beginning to release their plans to have students on campus so I want to share checklist for dorm room and closet organization with The Container Store again.
Because she was my first to head to college and the fact that she’s heading cross-country, my hope was to be uber-organized so I will not be making “runs to Target”. (Plus the Target is 30 minutes away!) Not to mention, my friends have told me how picked over stores like this become at move-in and how it’s often hard to find what you need if you wait until that point!
The Container Store has a fabulous checklist of all the things college students need on move-in day. From under-bed storage drawers and hangers for the closet to desk supplies and shower caddies, The Container Store really has you covered. They have a great offer to help with getting organized! Parents and college students can sign up online to get 20% off their purchases today through 8/16.
After we selected their bedding, we went directly to The Container Store. The girls liked these rolling stackable drawers for under their beds. They only have a small dresser with three drawers, so extra storage for clothing is key. They have 32″ of clearance under their bed so will use 3 of the 8″ tall drawers topped with one 6″ drawer in two stacks for plenty of extra storage.
My daughter plans to stack jeans, sweatshirts, and sweaters on one of the closet shelves and selected these shelf dividers to keep everything stacked and tidy.
One thing I have heard is popular for the girls is using their desks to double as dressing tables. She selected these stackable jewelry boxes that can be configured to fit their needs. She loved these lucite makeup organizers as well. The iHome Vanity Mirror that has a built in speaker and iPhone charger was a huge hit. I love a mutli-tasker that saves space, too!
We did a little bit of YouTube snooping to get a tour of their suite-style dorm’s bathrooms. I discovered that they will need soap dispensers and paper towel holders. Pro Tip: Go to YouTube for video tours of your student’s future dorm. They were such a great help!
For desk organization, the she chose the Stockholm collection that is available in so many colors and can easily coordinate with your room.
Don’t forget you can sign up online to get 20% off purchases now through 8/16. Since they ship anywhere in the United States, we sent these straight to our school so it would all be there on move-in day. More great tips like this are coming next week!
I would love to hear any tips you have for sending your first off to college, especially any move-in day hacks! Comment below because I would love to share your tips and tricks with others!
Thanks for helping us along in this journey!
