I get asked often my favorite kitchen tools, beaches, restaurants, this or that, so today I start a series on just that…My Favorite Five.
Today I’m sharing the Five Kitchen Tools You Need
Mixing Bowls – I’ve used these bowls each and every day for 21 years. They were one of the most useful wedding presents we received. I like to prep things before I cook so I just dump it all in. The different sizes are perfect for so many uses…there is one just perfect for scrambling 6 eggs, , another for dipping sauce, another for pancake mix and the large is great for mixing cookie dough or a large batch of granola.
Santoku Hollow Edge Knife – Knives each have different purposes but I find my self most comfortable with this one. I have one 5 inch and two 7 inch. The hollow edge helps to keep food from “sticking” and bunching up on the blade. I use it to chop, peel, dice and mince. It’s a great all purpose knife. The shape of this handle also makes it comfortable in your hand.
Microplane – I actually have 3 sizes of these and use them constantly. Grating carrots, ginger and parmesan with this one or this one. Zesting lemons, limes and oranges with this one.
Cutting Board – I have 4 of these boards in constant rotation. I use two on my counter at every meal prep time…protecting my white marble countertop (yes, I know…patina…I’m getting there!) and a great surface for my favorite knife.
Olive Wood Salt Keeper -This stays on my counter top with my favorite oils on this great marble tray. I love flipping it open and pinching out the Kosher salt…yes, I’m that into cooking…This was one of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts from my girls last year. It would be really great monogrammed, too!

I got those same bowls as a wedding gift 15 years ago and I use them daily! And, love the olive wood salt keeper. For some reason it makes adding a pitch of salt just a but more fun.
