I love impromptu and last minute gatherings! Having ingredients for an easy appetizer makes them stress free, as well. A charcuterie board is the perfect entertaining item anytime of the year. Here are five things every charcuterie board needs.
1 A selection of cheeses
I keep my favorites from Trader Joe’s on hand. Manchego, Honey goat cheese, Parmesan and Apricot Stilton.
2 Cured meats
Pepper crusted salami and prosciutto are my favorites.
3 Something Salty
Olives and nuts are great salty additions. I don’t typically do nuts since we have a nut allergy. As a precaution for guests, you could use a small ramekin or dish to put them in on your charcuterie board.
4 Fresh or Dried Fruit
I’ve used fresh raspberries and blueberries here but often include dried apricots and cherries. I also love sliced apple to use like a cracker.
5 Bread or Crackers
Small baguette slices and crackers are a must for your charcuterie and cheeseboard. My favorite crackers are any of the Mary’s Gone Crackers flavors.
There is no real formula for creating your board but I always begin by placing my cheese first spacing it out on the board. Next, I add the meats spaced in between. Then I add small bowls of olives or nuts. After, those I layer in crackers and then sprinkle berries, figs or dried fruits to finish.
I hope that you will pick these things up the next time you’re at the store so you’re prepared next time you have a last minute gathering.
