The holidays are around the corner and soon you’ll be breaking out the Christmas decor and putting up your tree. Whether you are getting an early start this year or planning to wait to decorate until after Thanksgiving, now is a great time to start figuring out how to decorate your home for Christmas. My Holiday Home Shop will give you lots of Christmas decoration ideas and help you get your home into the holiday spirit!
Christmas Tree
I absolutely love Christmas because it is a time dedicated to celebrating the birth of our Savior and his gift of grace to all of us. But, I also love it because of the family time and memories we get to create. I have never been one to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving. We usually do it that weekend while we are recovering from our turkey coma!
A few years ago I purchased a new tree and I’m so glad I did! Our other tree was honestly too large for the space and cumbersome to put together. I took a chance on this 9 foot “real look” tree from National Tree Amazon and I absolutely love it! It is so high-quality. I think it is just as beautiful as my other tree that cost three times as much!
I purchased this tree skirt at the same time I purchased the tree because believe it or not I had been using the same one for 23 years and it was time for a new one!
Christmas Tree Inspiration
When it comes to decorating your Christmas tree, I highly recommend picking a color scheme and theme! Do you prefer more of traditional Christmas look with reds and greens? Or are you more of an elegant silver and gold person? My mother does a candy themed tree each year that is so darling! My girls love to see what she adds each year. Below are some of my trees from past years!
Ornaments
My tree is a mix of ornaments that we have collected over the past 25 years. I have gold, silver, white, mercury glass, and iridescent glass. I also use shades of blue and, of course, Christmas red! These create a base to highlight the rest of our collected ornaments.
Each year I decide on a color theme, choose the ornaments and add fresh ribbon, if needed. We also have a collection of unique and special ornaments that the girls love to hang each year. Each one has a special memory attached and we love talking about them as we decorate. For example, this ornament would be a great way to remember our love of traveling. My sister-in-law is half German so she gave us a similar version of this pickle ornament. We hide it in the tree Christmas Eve and whoever finds it gets a special treat!
I’ve created a boutique below that has similar ornaments to those I’ve collected as well as beautiful options to add to your collection this year.
Stockings
Our stockings are so special to me as my mom made them for us! I love the look of the personalized stockings though. These needlepoint personalized stockings come in a variety of patterns. Also, I love these stocking holders. You could either do the same one for all of the stockings or pick a unique one for each member of your family and have it personalized.
Garland
The garland on my mantle is pre-decorated with silver, gold, white and iridescent glass ornaments and lights. It comes in several other color combinations, too. I’ve included them below. It is lush and full and makes a great background for my traditional Nutcracker collection.
Gift Wrap
I love to color coordinate my gift wrap with the tree. The Container Store always has the best paper and ribbon. Each year I choose a color theme and work with that for each gift. I vary the paper and ribbons but in the chosen colors. I do splurge on some of their specialty paper for a few special gifts. They always have a beautiful selection of gift wrap and ribbon no matter the colors you are using. Below you’ll see the Gift Wrap Boutique I’ve created with my favorites!
One tip that I have for making the holidays less stressful is to set up a gift wrap station! This makes it easy to locate everything you need and keeps your wrapping paper, scissors, tape, gift tags, and more organized. I love this over the door option along with this wrap and tote organizer.
How To Wrap A Gift & Make The Perfect Tiffany Bow
Have you ever wondered on how to present a perfectly wrapped present? I shared my step by step guide on how to do so here! After all, I think that everyone appreciates a well wrapped gift, especially with a “Tiffany” bow on top of it!
Storage for Christmas Decorations
As you are pulling your collection of holiday decor out this year, you may realize that you need a better system of storing your tree, wreaths, ornaments, and everything else. I love these drop in bins for ornament storage along with this tall collectible bin for nutcrackers, candleholders, and figurines.
Need to store your Christmas tree? This rolling bag is perfect! Plus, this zippered bag is ideal for storing wreaths.
