One of the fun things about having a food blog is receiving new products to try. I was excited to see this great product on my porch one day. Jammit! Jam is made by Andrea Chatterji and Stephanie Magilow, two Dallas foodie friends who turned a hobby in to a business. Jammit! Jam creates gourmet spreadable fruit using seasonal, whole-fruit, natural raw cane sugar, herbs or spices, and a splash of libation. Talk about great flavors!
We enjoyed it on Glutino English Muffins for breakfast this week and of course loved sampling each one. Everyone loved the bright, sweet and savory flavors, especially the Strawberry Chili Shiraz…even my youngest daughter who hadn’t eaten a strawberry in a year! How’s that for an endorsement?!?!
They say if it’s not good enough to eat from the jar with a spoon, the recipe isn’t finished. We had not problem doing so. These are amazing! You can pick them up at Central Market locally, purchase from their website and check their website for other locations.
Here is more about Jammit! Jam: We promise to never compromise quality by only producing jam that is seasonal, small-batch, and jam-i-licious.Andrea spends part of her summers in Portland, Oregon, and one of her “happy” places is Sauvie Island, full of fruit-picking farms. She regularly berry picks with her children and would bring home multiple flatsof all types of berries.
There are only so many pies and cobblers one can make before your jeans can’t fit anymore. Andrea, being a health nut, decided that she needed to come up with a better way to preserve and enjoy all of those amazing fruits at their peak. Andrea, also a creative cook in the kitchen, naturally started experimenting with flavors and cut the sugar way back. When she returned to Dallas, she shared her jams with many friends, one of them, Stephanie Magilow, is also an inventive cook and a former wedding cake baker and designer, knew instantly that they were amazing and could easily be sold in local farmers markets. Through conversation, we decided to combine our savvy cooking skills, marketing and business prowess, to form a business and start collaborating on developing recipes. “By working together we have come to realize how much we balance and complement each other’s strengths. Our roles are very yin-yang in all the right ways.”
The company was founded in January 2014 and started selling in August 2014 at a local farmers market. Before we knew it, we were unable to keep up with local demand. We knew we had a jam gem when people were telling us that they were eating it directly out of jars with their spoon. Jammit! Jam’s flavors are so delicious because we are passionate about only using whole, seasonal fruit, from whatever region has it fresh and in season at that time, we use only pure raw cane sugar (not the white, processed stuff). We balance the fruit with the perfect spice, herb and libation. We tested every recipe for months. We both love to cook and to experiment in the kitchen and because of that, we have a natural understanding of what flavors naturally complement one another. We use our spoon as our symbol because if the finished jam wasn’t spoon-worthy to eat right out of the jar, then we weren’t done testing the recipe. Our method of cooking really allows the multiple layers of flavors to shine through. And because the alcohol gets cooked out, Jammit! Jam can be enjoyed by the entire family. Jammit! Jam pairs beautifully with artisan cheeses, gourmet pastries and can even be warmed up as a sauce or chutney over meat, pork, duck or chicken.
I can’t wait to try the Blueberry Star Anise Merlot in hand pies or maybe add Peach Thyme Prosecco to a glass of Prosecco soon!
Let me know your favorite flavor!
