I am excited to share a little bit different Wanderlust Wednesday with you today. A few weekends ago, we spent the weekend at beautiful Long Cove, a lake community about an hour outside of Dallas but feels a world away. Long Cove is luxury lake living with resort-style amenities any family would love.
You can see a video of our time at Long Cove on my Instagram Story highlights under Long Cove. This will give you a great feel of all the activities and details at this beautiful community.
The passion project of Dallas developer Don McNamara, Long Cove is a well planned lake community that makes second-home ownership a breeze. His vision was to create a lake community with all the comforts of home without the maintenance. I’d say he’s done it! From a Lake Club with a restaurant, pool and game room and Toy Barn with a huge play field to tennis, a 9-hole golf course and the world’s third largest putting green “Thistle Never Do” not to mention all the fun that comes with being at the lake, boating and fishing, Long Cove has it all and more.
While I grew up in Austin, Texas, I did not grow up going to the lake. My husband who grew up in Dallas, however, did and has always been interested in owning a lake home. Owning our own businesses and raising three, busy girls have made it something we didn’t think we could do. Long Cove has the answer to all of the issues that make second-home ownership seem like a lot of work. We were fortunate enough for them to host us for a weekend so we could experience lake living at its best!
We took advantage of their Stay and Play package, which is three days and two nights in a Camp House on the waterfront in the Henderson Bay/North Shore area. This is available to those truly interested in experiencing Love Cove and possibly establishing a second home here. The fee is credited to you at closing.
The concierge services at Long Cove make arrival a breeze. They will stock your pantry and refrigerator, as well as arrange massages, private chefs, and more. It was wonderful to walk into a fully stocked pantry and refrigerator when we arrived.
Long Cove has several different neighborhoods. Founder’s Row, is where the Lake Club is located and the hub of Long Cove activities. Dodd’s Landing is a large cove with a dock and a lively fully built neighborhood. Henderson Bay is the newest cove with lots for sale to build your dream lake home and beautiful Harbor Front Townhomes that are currently available. North Shore is a new tree filled neighborhood that has many lots for sale also. After a tour of Long Cove’s property, including the different neighborhoods and future projects, we had dinner at the lake club watching the sunset. You know I love a good sunset!
The next morning we awoke to the beauty of the sunrise over the water. We enjoyed a cup of coffee on our porch and then made our way to the lake club for fun activities. The lake club is the central hub of activity at Long Cove. It has a small workout room and toy barn filled with games and sports equipment ready for you to use on the play field. Across from this is the Lake Club, which has a restaurant and resort style swimming pool with spa.
The main dock is also at the Lake Club, where the Boat Valet can deliver your boat directly to you. Yes! I said Boat Valet! Having owned a boat for many years when we were first married, this is one of the amenities that most appeals to me! No more wiping down the boat. (We used to determine who we’d invite again based on how helpful they were getting the boat out of the water! Ha!)
With a Boat Valet, you simply turn over the keys! There are several docks around the community in the different coves, and you can have the valet bring your boat to you from dry storage at any dock you designate. There is also a Boat Club that offers co-ownership of boats. Yes, please! We had a great time out on the lake cruising and tubing!
Long Cove has fun community events planned throughout the year. For Father’s Day weekend, they partnered with Boardwalk Automotive to bring in Ferraris and Maseratis for dads to drive. You could also take advantage of wakeboard lessons. On Saturday night, they had a beautiful lakeside dinner celebrating fathers. The chef, Justin Boswell, created a fabulous course of surf and turf paired with amazing salads and sides. After sunset, we returned home and enjoyed s’mores under the stars.
If group activities aren’t your gig or you’d prefer to create your own fun that is certainly possible! With over 1,000 acres filled with hiking and biking trails and 6 miles of coastline, there is plenty of room to roam! As one friend with a home there said, “It’s not hard to create memories here. They just happen.”
Sunday was a bit stormy, so enjoyed a lazy morning with Father’s Day breakfast in bed, which is our family tradition, and lots of board games. We headed home early, but thoroughly enjoyed our time at Long Cove, where they say weekends are longer and I definitely have to agree!

Here’s to longer weekends!
