I am so excited to be headed to Malibu to visit my oldest daughter. Although I have done a Malibu Travel Guide, I realized I have never done a packing list! Here are my tips and packing list for Malibu!
The great thing about Malibu is pretty much anything goes! It it has a casual beach town vibe with a hint of glamour, too. The weather is typically in the 70s year-round with warm sunshine. The winter months are a bit cooler and summer a bit warmer but overall typically amazing “California” weather. Being bordered by the Santa Monica mountains and the Pacific Ocean, it really is a perfect climate year round.
What to pack for warmer weather months in Malibu…
From about April to September, I pack summer dresses like this and this, cute tops, and jeans well as a favorite swimsuit. I’ll throw in a light denim jacket or wrap for cool evenings. Misa Los Angeles dresses are a favorite of mine because they pack well and can go almost anywhere with a change of accessories. In the top photo, we are having brunch at our favorite Malibu Beach Inn. It was a warm sunny day in August when we went to move her in.
In the photo on the pier, we flew in early on an April morning and met Laurel at church then went to lunch at Malibu Farm on the Malibu Pier. I had a jacket on when we landed then the sun quickly warmed everything up!
Other days, I’ll wear shorts and a cute top or light sweater. I love how laid-back everything is. There are of course very nice restaurants where we dress up quite a bit. I’ve shared all the details in my Malibu Travel Guide. My daughter’s sweatshirt is from Faherty, a quintessential Malibu brand.
Above is a cute denim pantsuit I picked up at the Paige store in the Malibu Country Mart.
I wore a cute top (similar) and white jeans to celebrate Laurel’s 21st birthday again at Malibu Beach Inn. We truly love this restaurant and hotel!
I love to hike in Malibu so I always throw in some workout gear. I’ve linked a few favorites below.
What to pack for cooler weather months in Malibu…
I always take a light jacket appropriate for the season. This jacket from Tuckernuck and my favorite Cuyana wrap are perfect for cooler months. You’ll always find several pairs of great denim, as well as a cute sweatshirt in my bag.
I am packing my favorite ivory cashmere sweater (this one is similar and on its way to me!), and a few light sweaters and turtlenecks to pair with my favorite denim for this trip. I’ll also bring along this jacket and a light puffer for evenings as it will be a low of 45 in the evenings since it’s January. One night we are going to the film festival at Pepperdine because she and a friend co-wrote and co-directed a short. I’m so excited to see their work!
I don’t do a good job of taking photos here since we are focused on our girl! I’ll try and do a better job this trip!
I’ll keep the boutique below updated so that no matter when you’re headed to Malibu, you will find just what you need!

Hi there Alicia!
Do you ever get a facial? I would like to get one but my skin is delicate so I’m looking for someone that has organic or sensitive products I think. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much,
I’ve enjoy all your posts❣️
