Two years ago,I created a Pool Cabana and Teen Game Room from a space above our garage. It has been a hub of activity almost year round since! Almost every weekend it has been filled with the girls and their friends. Nothing makes me happier than to have our home filled with friends and laughter!
As we are all beginning to spend time with family and friends, I wanted to share it again to offer some inspiration for your home. I continue to get questions about this fun space and how I was able to make it chic but teen friendly.
Originally, this space with a full bath was used as our guest room and we had an indoor playroom. That room is now our guest room. I shared it with you last summer. It is serene and peaceful. We love having my parents stay here!
Kitchenette and Game Room
After adding a small stack of drawers and the mini fridge we had in the old playroom to complete the cabinetry bank, I painted existing cabinets high gloss Symphony Blue by Benjamin Moore and added this gorgeous lucite hardware. Hardware is an easy way to upgrade and refresh your cabinetry. The floating shelves over this gorgeous tile are custom by the cabinet maker but these on Etsy were the inspiration and a great option of you don’t know or don’t want to engage a cabinet maker. These would be great over a desk in teens room, too.
For an easy care countertop, I replaced the old white formica with 2 cm Morning Frost Quartz from DalTile. I wanted a pure white and didn’t want to worry about spill and stains. I have this same product in my laundry room and the girls bathrooms. It is almost indestructible!
These shelves are always stocked with the girls favorite snacks and candy: kettle corn in a woven basket, Twizzlers, Sour Patch Kids (these are actually my favorite!) and trail mix in these sturdy glass jars. The fridge is full of water, La Croix and mini soft drinks. I put flavored water in a drink dispenser out here once and all the girls loved the “spa water” so now it’s a fixture, too. I found these great blue acrylic glasses. I keep a bunch of cute styrofoam cups out here, too.
The shag rug was a last minute addition but helps to ground the space and add softness. I actually ordered it as an option for the other room. But without a lot of furniture in this room, it’s a cozy place for the kids to sit and they love it! The Fat Boy bean bags get dragged in here, too.
The highlights for the kids in this room are the Pac-Man game table and the karaoke speaker. I love the neon “Good Vibes Only” sign that was custom made at Neon of Dallas. I found the Pac-Man locally at Fun Gameroom Superstore. It is all new software and has 60+ games on it in addition to Pac-Man including my hubby’s favorite Galaga. If I can’t find him, I know he’s out here!
POOL BATH
This room got a complete overhaul in collaboration with Wayfair. I love the navy grout with the white hexagon tile and the blue chinoiserie mirror. The cabinets got the same refresh as in the kitchenette. You can see all the detail in this post.
MEDIA ROOM
I reupholstered the sleeper sofa from our former playroom and covered it in the softest gray and white woven Duralee Fabric by Lonni Paul with Crypton technology. The piping is the same fabric in navy. This fabric is perfect for active spaces with kids and pets. I have white Crypton Fabric in my family room and it has cleaned up so well. The monogrammed navy pillow is from Wisteria with a custom monogram from SB Monograms. Skyler is so creative and was so fast! Having the sleeper sofa allows us to use it for guests as well.
My goal was to find beautiful style but to stay reasonably priced in this teen space for accessories. The side tables with the white tray top are perfect for this space. They were also under $100. The navy and white stripe lamps are ceramic and a great budget find, too. I found others almost exactly like these but couldn’t justify the price tag for a teen room. These are all the look and currently 50% off.
The coffee table coordinates perfectly with the side tables and is light enough to move if needed to watch movies. It is a lot of style for under $250. The Fat Boy bean bags live in here and are so comfortable! They look a bit strange but function like a chair. They can substitute for an air mattress for slumber parties. They get dragged inside a lot, too!
The I love the contrast of the industrial overhead lighting in these rooms. They are adjustable and were perfect for the low ceilings in this space. Another great Wayfair find.
The piece d’ resistance of the entire space is the amazing Gray Malin print Amalfi Beach White Umbrellas. I am so fortunate to have this special piece from Gray. It is actually the first print of this numbered print, making it even that much more special. You have to check out is work. He has photographed some of the most beautiful places in the world. I also love this great series at The Parker in Palm Springs. It was truly hard to decide!
I hope you enjoyed more detail on the special details of this fun space. I’ll do an tour of the space on my Instagram this week also. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything. Leave me a comment with your favorite part of this room below. Remember I draw winners each month of great gift boxes of beauty items and more!
