I simply love Mexico. I always have. Our current favorite place is Punta De Mita. We were invited by sweet friends who have a home at the Four Seasons. We were smitten and keep returning. Might have been the sunsets….No filter needed!
Punta Mita is an easy trip. Fly to Puerto Vallarta direct from most International Airports including DFW and a short 30 minute drive. This beautiful spot is surrounded on three sides by turquoise waters and nine and a half miles of varied coastline and highlighted by tropical forest and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains, where exotic wildlife roams and pre-Colombian Huichol Indians still live.
Overlooking the Marietas Islands, where elusive blue-footed Booby birds fly, adventure awaits in the form of whale watching, diving and snorkeling at the coral reefs, zip lining, paddle boarding, surfing, fishing and more.
I love the beach and could spend every minute parked on a chair, reading, spicy margarita in hand and be perfectly happy.
The Serrano Margarita from the Beach Club on a girls trip. (This is a great place for those, too!)
My husband and girls….well, they like to be a bit more active. So surfing is a big check box on the “can we go to this beach” list. Thankfully, Punta de Mita has several very accessible surf breaks. It’s also located very close to Sayulita, a surfing mecca and a much larger town than the Village at Punta de Mita. You can see more posts on our visits to Punta Mita here.
The girls getting a lesson from Mita. Dad supervising.
Mita is our favorite surf guide (yes, that’s what everyone calls him). He owns Mita Surf Club and is located in the Village. He also now owns a real estate/property rental company, Mita Real Estate. We rent from Mita and he and his staff always do an amazing job!
We have known him for about 9 years now and he is such a wonderful man and his wife, Alejendra, is darling. Mita Surf provides surf and paddle board lessons and rentals, whale watching, snorkeling and other activities. He can also take you by boat or car to a few other great surf breaks.
Mita and Pepe doing their thing!
Located just outside the gates of the Punta Mita development, the Village is small and quaint. Many residents are fishermen who provide their daily fresh catch for the beachfront restaurants. There are a few shops for basics like floats, sunscreen and tequila and a few restaurants we visit. Most of the shopping is at the resorts but that is not why you come here.
We have stayed at the Four Seasons, St. Regis and Hacienda de Mita (a condo development next to the Village – in front of a surf break, naturally.) We love it so much here, we are considering buying a condo. Mita will manage it and it will be for rent if we do!
My favorite for a couples trip is the St. Regis but it is great for families, too. It’s quiet and smaller than the Four Seasons. The service is amazing, (sweet guys remember our names from the year before!), location beautiful, rooms luxurious (highlighted with the hot pink I love) and great dining options. There is a great casual restaurant for breakfast and lunch, a fun palapa bar for lunch and dinner and always poolside service. Carolina at the St. Regis on of the only AAA Five Diamond Restaurants in Mexico. It is exquisite fine dining. Must try for a date night where ever you stay. You can see our most recent stay on my Instagram Stories Highlight St. Regis PM.
My favorite for family is a home or condo. We tend to stay somewhere with a kitchen so that at least some meals aren’t stressful due to our food allergies. With access to the Resident’s Beach Club, updated in 2019 and now called Pacifico, (my favorite spot in PM), Kapuri Beach Club, the St. Regis Beach Club and surf break out front, there is no shortage of activity. (We rent homes with a membership to the Beach Clubs and Golf Club. Don’t assume they all come with a membership. Be sure to ask!
Resident’s Beach Club (Updated photos coming)
Reserved exclusively for members and their guests, the Residents’ Beach Club is located on beautiful beach next to the “Tail of the Whale”, has two swimming pools, a playground, beach chairs with service, casual dining, a bar, and men’s and women’s locker rooms.
There is now a Kupuri Beach Club that has a great pool, restaurant and bar. You can see it in this post where I have the black cover up on. The Pacifico is still my favorite though!
Highly praised by golfers and golfing magazines, this unique championship course, the #1 course in Latin America is here at Punta Mita. The Pacifico Course boasts the famous “Tail of the Whale” hole where an amphibious vehicle takes you to play this special and beautiful hole.
If you are thinking about a trip to a tropical clime, I highly recommend Punta de Mita!
I’m dreaming of my return….

La Pescadora – Try the Camerones Ajillo!
Si Senor
Our new favorite is Los Agaves. Our friend’s sister owns this chic, yes, chic!, restaurant on the main street that leads to the village. It was fabulous and the margarita’s were perfect!
