Wanderlust Wednesday: South African Safari Packing List

by | Packing Lists, Style, Wanderlust Wednesday

Today, I wanted to share the second part of my South Africa packing list with you: What to pack for a South African Safari.  We just arrived at our first Safari destination: Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge and will then continue to the Royal Malewane at Thorneybush Private Reserve. This might be the most anticipated part of this trip of a lifetime experience. I’ve always dreamed of going on a Safari in Africa.

We have had a wonderful time with Natural World Safaris in Cape Town and in the Winelands.  I hope you’ve been following along on Instagram and Instagram stories.

This is the fall season in South Africa so the temperature will range from 80° in the daytime to 45° in the evenings. Layering will be the key! J Brand makes my favorite pants (similar). I have had several versions of this style over the past 10 years and they are still my favorites. I ordered the newest version of these pants in a lighter twill fabric and both navy (similar) and dark green (similar). They are a great, flattering fit.  Again, these will be great for fall and the Safari.

I am always cold so I am bringing two different jackets and a vest. I showed this Barbour jacket (similar) on Instagram stories before I left and got so many positive responses from so many of you who own this jacket. I think it will be great not only for the trip but for the fall in Dallas. I also picked up this utility jacket (similar) in tan. This jacket is a bit oversized with an adjustable waist and will be perfect for accommodating extra layers when I need them.

As far as shirts, I have packed a quarter-zip, a button-down, a blouse, and this favorite tee. I wore it in Winelands with this skirt (similar). I’ve also thrown in my favorite sweater for layering. I have this sweater (similar) in so many different colors. It’s the perfect weight for mild weather and great for layering.

I purchased these boots as I wanted something that would work well on the Safari and this fall.  They are extremely soft leather with lots of padding in the footbed. I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were at this price. I brought these sneakers (similar) but was torn about bringing these comfy sneakers as they are so comfortable but I wondered about the metallic shine.  I don’t want to attract anything!

Since we will be in the open air I have brought this packable straw hat and two baseball caps. I am now obsessed with these caps (similar) designed specifically for women from Bahadu.  The khaki and olive are perfect for this trip. I also have the white perforated sport version that you may have seen on Instagram stories when I wore it to the soccer tournament this past weekend.

It seems that we will change for dinner each evening so of course, I have brought my go-to: dresses!  The color of this gorgeous dress (similar) that I took to Italy is also perfect for Africa.  I brought along two other feminine dresses as I know that we will have a private dinner or two to celebrate our anniversary.  I had to bring this favorite skirt (similar) from this post.  I’ve found it for you in a few sizes and linked them below.  I also have my favorite wrap for cool evenings.

In the boutique below I have linked all of the items I’m taking as well as other inspiration and options for each of the items. I will continually update this post so that is always filled with fresh inspiration that’s available for your trip.  I’ve shared Safari suggestion for him that my husband is bringing as well!

I hope you will follow along on Instagram and Instagram stories. I will not be posting here on the blog until we are home but I am sharing our daily activities there instead. You can see Cape Town under the Highlights as well as a few posts on my Instagram feed.  When I return I will, of course, summarize each destination and a blog post as well as a round-up post on what I wore for each destination.

We are headed on our first game drive this afternoon!  I’ll be sure to share it all with you on Instagram and here when I return!

XO
