Spring Family Room Reveal and Home Tour

by | Interior Inspiration, My Home | 6 comments

I’m so excited to share this Spring Family Room Reveal and home tour with you today. My friend Tiffany Blackmon organized a wonderful group of women to share their homes and Spring decor with you today.  I’ve shared links to their tours at the end of the post so be sure to visit them.

As much as I loved the crisp combination of navy and white with pops of hot pink in our family room when I re-decorated it several years ago, I love returning to a focus on my love of blue and white.  With just a few new items and moving things from other rooms, I created a very fresh, new look for our family room.  I absolutely love it and my husband does, too!  I did most of this while he was out of town for a few days so it was a big surprise.  He keeps walking through and saying “This room looks amazing!”

Alpaca Throw / Embroidered Pillow

The first thing you’ll notice is I have recovered the pair of modern wing backs to the same Crypton chenille as my sofa. The navy and white zebra print was so fun but also very limiting.  This gives me a clean palette so that I can make small changes which make a big impact. I have finished them off with my favorite alpaca throws in coastal blue and beautiful heavily embroidered blue and white pillows from Serena and Lily.  (Serena and Lily is having their big 20% off site wide sale through the weekend!)

Design Tip: Start with neutral furniture and add color to your decor with pillows, throws and art.  It makes it so much easier to update and less expensive!

Behind them is the gorgeous custom painting from my dear friend Jenn Thatcher which hangs over the antique sideboard I received as an anniversary present years ago. It currently houses lots of games but I am going to convert it to storage for my growing collection of table top items!  I shared Jenn’s new clothing collection yesterday, so be sure to take a peek if you missed it!

Floral Misa Dress / Earrings / Espadrilles / Bracelets / Next to fireplace: Large Jar / Medium Jar / Smaller Jar / Mantle: Happiness Vase / Small Happiness Jar

Showcasing my collection of blue import pottery is the focus in this room. I have filled one of my favorite pieces with these beautiful silk branches again this spring. It’s the perfect touch alongside the growing collection of photographs of the girls every year.  I’ve grouped three of my favorite pieces next to the fireplace and several more on the mantle.  may even recognize them from my website masthead.  There are many pieces in the boutique below including many of mine to help you build your collection.

Design Tip: Group your collections to make a larger impact in a room and in your home.

You’ll also notice something new over the mantle. On Black Friday, we finally purchased a Samsung Frame TV and could not be happier! I’ll be sharing a full review with you soon but suffice it to say we love it! I love the fact that you can change the artwork and not have a big black screen dominating your room. The TV is flanked by more of my blue and white collection.

One of my new favorite pastimes is playing mah-jongg with friends. This card table has seen many games ever in the past 65 years in my family. It belonged to my great grandmother and is one of my prized possessions. When it’s not set up for a game, this beautiful blue and white bowl filled with orchids or a container garden of seasonal plants lives here. You can learn how to create one yourself in this post.

Design Tip: Find a container you love and change the plants seasonally to add life to your decor.

Lattice Pillow / Floral Pillow / Alabaster Lamp / Side Table / Orchid Bowl / Similar Platter

Last fall, I did a round up of beautiful blue and white pillows. I didn’t get around to changing them for fall.  I love the combination that I chose and they work for spring, too. They are really seasonless fabrics and colors.  The floral pillow is backed in a navy linen. The pale blue lattice embroidered pillows are Mary McDonald. Both of these pillows will coordinate well with other colors when I decide to switch them out for other seasons.

Design Tip:  Choose a color palette that allows you to mix and match pillows for a fresh look easily.

One of the other big changes in this room is adding this beautiful rug from LilliKat Rugs. For several years I have had a silver leaf white cowhide because I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted for this room. It’s very large and hard to find rugs that are not custom that are the correct size for this room.

Last week, as I was installing the pieces, I had in this room it dawned on me that the gorgeous rug from LilliKat Rugs in our guest room was the perfect solution! (I’m so thankful for my daughter’s boyfriend who helped us get it out from under the bed and downstairs!) This is a 9 x 14 rug and I have arranged the furniture to be just off the rug. There are many ways to arrange your furniture around rugs.  This is the perfect solution for this room and not having to create a custom rug which can be quite expensive.  I’ve shared more about LilliKat Rugs here.

Design Tip: Look around your home and see what pieces you have that might bring a new life to a room!

I have also done a bit of a round robin with some lamps in my home. These alabaster lamps were initially in our guestroom as well. I moved them to the family room, the turquoise glass from the kitchen to my daughters room, the white lamps from her room to the guest room and finally the Navy lamps that were in this room to the kitchen! Voilà!  A new look in four rooms for free!

Design Tip: Again, look around your home and see what pieces you have that might bring a new life to a room!

I am contemplating a new coffee table but I absolutely love the size of this one. This is very similar to mine and comes in a lot of different finishes.  It’s perfect for everything from family game nights to cocktail parties. I’ve gathered a few favorite things and grouped them in a beautiful rattan tray.  I’ll be sharing tips on how to style your coffee table very soon!

We have loved playing with this new Four Across created by my friend Michelle at Charlotte Maxx. You can have one of these sets with your own custom combination of pieces. My pieces are navy and white pearl, turquoise and silver glitter.  It’s fun to mix and match! Use code ALICIAFREESHIPPING for free shipping on your orders.

Floral Misa Dress / Earrings / Espadrilles / Bracelets / Lattice Pillows / Floral Pillows

I also get a lot of questions about my paint color.  It is a custom color I’ve used throughout the house on all trim and cabinets.  Paint color: Custom from Benajmin Moore (Formula is: S1 1x 29.5000  W1 0x 26.0000  R3 0x 0.7500  Y1 0x 7.7500)  It is also very close to the BM color Icicle. The walls that are not trimwork like in this room are 50% Benjamin Moor Sailcloth.  It matches this formula perfectly.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Spring Family Room Reveal.  My goal is to inspire you create memories at home with family and friends so I hope you are encouraged to add a little bit of new and look around your home for pieces that you can style in different rooms in new ways.

Now it’s time for you to visit my friends and see their homes updated for Spring!  I hope you love them and their homes as much as I do!  Each of their websites and Instagram accounts are linked below.  The boutique of all the details of my room is below that.

What color of paint did you use on the walls in the family room? It is beautiful! We are remodeling and I hope to create a look similar to this one.

    • Alicia

      Hi Rindy!
It is a custom color but very close to Dove White and Icicle from Benjamin Moore. It’s a soft white that doesn’t have any yellow in it. Good luck on your remodel! I’m hoping to have some fun remodel news to share soon!
