Dressing Room Diary: Styling a Friend

by | Style

I am a big online shopper.  I love to be able to try things on at home, in my size with my shoes, the right bag and other accessories.  Free shipping from Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom make this so easy and a true time saver.  If I need it quickly, I purchase online for in-store pick up.  Last week, I met my friend and fellow blogger, Tanya, for lunch.  You’ve met her here and here.  We always have a lot to talk about and love to brainstorm together.  Even though our styles are similar thought it’d be fun to try styling each other.

Here are the results….

I would have chosen the first one but not the other two.  First, I tried a great shift dress that runs true to size.  The dress I have on is one size larger than I would actually wear.  The embellished neckline is very “Breakfast at Tiffany” and a high pony would show it off well.  The second is a great dress for someone tall and is boxy so I would size down.  I love the shine that the lurex threads and tiny sequins add to this simple turtleneck silhouette.  The third dress was not a style I would have tried.  The high neck and smocked waist don’t look like much on the hanger (another reason I like to shop online).  It was actually very flattering and the lurex shine and chiffon fabric are truly festive.  It comes in a top version that I like, too.  It would be perfect for an office holiday party or Christmas Eve church service.

Tanya wasn’t sure about the pleated skirt trend so I insisted she try it.  It hits two trends (pleated and shine) and looked great on her 5’8″ frame.  It’s too long for a shorty like me.  We liked it with both tops. The sheer detailing on the cream blouse was so gorgeous.  It would be beautiful with black velvet pants.  She loved the black top and paired it with her own jeans.  The silver sweater dress was pretty and festive.  The black version would have been better for her coloring.  You can find all the links for these on Tanya’s blog.

Be sure to watch our blogs and Instagram feeds for the winners we actually took home.

TGIF!
