Before our trip I shared my Italy Packing List with you but today I wanted to show you how I styled everything and when and where I wore it.
It was extremely hot in Italy while we were there. We knew that it would be warm but everyone said it was unseasonably hot. Sahara Blast or something like that. My goal was to bring only what I needed, and look great while dressing as cool as possible. My thinking when traveling and touring cities is always if you are dressed a little bit nicer then you will be treated a little bit better. At our apartment in Florence we were able to do laundry which was nice. Everything I wore fit in this suitcase.
Travel Look: Similar Dress / Longchamp Le Pliage Leather Crossbody / Similar Sandals
On long-haul flights I always like to wear something that feels like I’m wearing pajamas. This soft bamboo cotton dress was perfect. I also wore the oversized cardigan from this designer, that you’ll hear more about soon, in another color.
Day 1: Similar Sleeveless white T / Similar White Denim / Similar Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
After we landed I changed into one of my favorite sleeveless white T-shirts and white cropped jeans. We did some walking around our neighborhood and hopped on vintage Vespas. I can’t wait to share more about that with you!
Day 2: Similar Dress / Neutral Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
I wore this navy wrinkle wrap dress to dinner the first night and for touring the Vatican and a few other churches on this day. It was perfect for the heat and just covered enough for the churches.
Day 3: Similar One Shoulder White Ruffle Dress / Neutral Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
I featured this white one shoulder dress with ruffle in this post a few weeks ago. It has been a staple this summer. It was the perfect dress for a very hot day and our visit to the Borghese museum gardens. I also wore it to dinner the night before. Are you seeing a theme?!?!
Dinner: Similar Tiered Floral Maxi Dress / Valentino Espadrilles / Cult Gaia Arc Bag
This gorgeous teared up floral maxi dress is one of my favorite purchases from all summer! It’s now on sale and a perfect transition piece. Navy is always such a great alternative to black.
Day 3 Similar Camo Dress / Neutral Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
This lightweight dress was perfect for being outside and the Roman sun all day. This is been one of my go to dresses all summer. It was sold out but now I have to found it restocked in all sizes! It’s also the featured item in my August Favorites Under $150 post.
Dinner: Similar Dress / Similar Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
I wore this classic blue and white striped Veronica Beard dress to the Trevi fountain and to dinner our last night. This classic style is my favorite no matter the fabric they create in in! It’s uber flattering.
Day 5: Similar Twisted Front VNeck T / Similar Skirt / Neutral Sandals / Crossbody Bag
This was my work for the train ride to Florence and that afternoon walking around getting our bearings. This T-shirt is the softest cotton and I love that it’s not too thin or see-through. The ruffled skirt is one of my favorites. It is great because you can dress it up or dress it down.
Dinner: Similar black and white mini print silk ruffle dress/ Valentino espadrilles/ Gucci mini bag
I wore the dress from this post to a quaint restaurant for dinner. Last seen here, here and here.
Day 6: White V-neck T-shirt / Army Green Cargo Skirt / Neutral Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
Day 7: Similar Dress
This is a different color of the same dress I wore on our flight to Rome. I wore this heathered peach version for our cooking class and day in the tiny Tuscan village of Angihari.
Day 8: Similar ruched gray T-shirt dress / Neutral Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
Every time I wear this body-conscious T-shirt dress my husband tells me how fabulous I work. I think I should wear every day! I also wore it to travel to Mexico. BTW, I’m posing with this Vespa because of a long-standing family joke. One of our girls was desperate for a Vespa when she was 8! I can’t tell you how many times I heard, “I want a Vespa! I want a Vespa!” So she was thrilled with our Rome Vespa Tour!
Dinner: Similar Green Dress
A reader gave me the recommendation for this restaurant and it was spot on! I’ll be sharing all the details in next Wednesday’s post. This dress was perfect for our surroundings and watching the sunset from this beautiful hilltop.
Day 9: Similar Sleeveless white T/ Similar gingham skirt / Neutral Sandals / Crossbody Bag
I always love the chance to pull out a favorite piece. This gingham skirt was everyone’s favorite last spring!
Dinner: Similar Forest Green Chiffon Mini Dress / Valentino Espadrilles
This forest green chiffon mini kept me looking great and cool as we enjoyed a Bellini and watched the sunset from our hotel rooftop bar.
Day 10: Similar Tank Dress / Neutral Sandals / Similar Crossbody Bag
This is the shorter version of the dress above. I truly can’t get enough of this amazing fabric! I’ll be sharing more about this company soon!
Dinner: Similar striped knit dress
Dinner: Similar dress / Valentino Espadrilles / Cult Gaia Arc Bag
Felt very Italian in this beautiful red silk dress for dinner at the new Cipriani restaurant on Guidecca Island.
Day 12: We had intended to fly home this day but our flight was canceled as you may know. I repeated the look from Day 9 with a different T-shirt.
Day 13: Similar Dress
Traveled home in the dress you see on Day 7 It is the same as the navy one I wore over. It truly feels like wearing a nightgown! It’ll be perfect for morning carpools, too!
I know this was a lot of information all in one post but I think it’s helpful to see how I can find things and made the most of wearing daytime pieces at least twice. We were fortunate to have the ability to do laundry at our apartment in Florence.
Each of the next three Wednesdays my series of Wanderlust Wednesday will return with all details of what we did in each city. Be sure to subscribe to my newsletter so you don’t miss a detail! Also as a gift for subscribing you will receive the passwords for both of my e-books, Fresh Sips and Taste of Summer.
Happy weekend

Love all your cute little dresses. I used to wear a lot of dresses then stopped when I had kid (oh, 15 yrs ago, ha). Made sense at the time because you know how it is… you’re always sitting on the ground, getting gunked up, etc… but I never went back to wearing them as the kids turned into teens. This summer was a bit of a re-discovery and they are so comfy for the summer weather.
