What I Wore in the French Alps: Megeve, France

by | Packing Lists, Style, Travel, Wanderlust Wednesday | 5 comments

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a great start to your new year.  We sure did!  We just returned from our ski trip to Megeve, France in the French Alps.  One of my goals for 2023 is to bring back Wanderlust Wednesday so I’m sharing what I packed and wore on our magical trip to this storybook town in the shadow of Mont Blanc.  I’ll be sharing our full travel itinerary soon, too!

TRAVEL LOOK

Summersalt Cashmere Hoodie / Summersalt Cashmere Jogger / Paravel Aviator Plus Carry-On / MZ Wallace Large Metro Tote Deluxe

This cashmere blend hoodie and jogger set were a lifesaver!  I’m always cold on planes and this was the perfect set to keep me comfortable in the cold and light enough so that when we needed to hustle through the airport, it wasn’t sweating to death!  It was also perfect for what became a 27-hour travel day on the way home.  Travel issues and delays are a nuisance but the experiences with our girls are worth it!  I’m so proud of how they rolled with it!

DAY LOOKS

Hot Pink Turtleneck with Gold Button Detail / Veronica Beard Carson Flare Denim / Tan Suede and Sherpa Golden Goose / Givenchy Mini Satchel

Sweaters, jeans and faux leather leggings ruled the day. I wore this pretty hot pink cotton turtleneck with gold button details walking around town and to dinner at Nana Cafe just around the corner from our hotel.  They had amazing Italian food in a fun, friendly atmosphere.  The concierge called ahead and made sure they’d save gluten-free pasta for us!  Great service on both accounts!  I paired these with the VB Carson jean.  I love the patch pockets on the front and the button detail.

Faherty Sweater / Veronica Beard Denim / Sorel Boots

I picked up this darling button-detail sweater in Malibu this Fall. My oldest daughter has it in navy and it is so good!

Blue and White Star Turtleneck Sweater / AG Dark Flare Denim

I love this classic blue and white star turtleneck sweater so much that I wore it twice!  First for my birthday day trip to Chamonix and then again for our helicopter ride over Mont Blanc. These AG dark flare denim were a favorite for this trip.  I had them hemmed for my boots and heels.  High-waisted and super flattering, these are now my favorite jeans!

White Dudley Stephens Park Slope Fleece / AG Dark Flare Denim / Sorel Wedge Boots / Givenchy Mini Satchel

I wore this Dudley Stephens Park Slope Fleece and dark flare denim for a little sightseeing around Megeve while my family skied one day.  I also threw it and the light blue version on each morning with sweater pants for breakfast.  These are my favorite casual but dressy enough to look put-together winter tops.

NIGHT LOOKS

Hayden Top from Brochu Walker / Faux Leather Leggings / Sorel Wedge Boots

Dinner the first night was at Le Relais followed by cocktails in their Lobby bar Les Enfants Terribles both at the Hotel Mont Blanc where we stayed.  I wore the Hayden Top from Brochu Walker.  This gorgeous cashmere sweater with a cape-like overlay is such a special piece.  I get compliments on it each time I wear it and this night was no different!  I paired it with my favorite faux leather leggings.  These are the most realistic faux leather and they truly hold you in in all the right places.  They are very comfortable.  I’m wearing the Sorel boots again as well.

Megeve is a pretty casual mountain town so sweaters and jeans were perfect most nights and places.  I shared the pink sweater and jeans for one night above. One of the nights after my spa day and they skied all day we just did PJs and room service!

Sweater Dress / Pajar Grip Boots / Givenchy Mini Satchel

For my birthday dinner, I wore this black, white and navy graphic Fair Isle-inspired sweater dress.  It was warm and super comfortable.  A lot of you asked for links from my IG stories!  I wore black tights and my favorite Apres Ski boots with it.

Black Cashmere Turtleneck / Sequin Pants / Stuart Weitzman Sandals / Givenchy Mini Satchel

On New Year’s Eve, we attended the NYE dinner and party at Le Relais restaurant at our hotel.  This was so much fun!!  I had meant to bring this dress as an option but forgot to pack it!  So much for my packing list!  Instead, I wore everyone’s favorite black cashmere turtleneck and sequin pants which I had thrown in last minute.  So glad I did!

Black and White Fair Isle Sweater / Commando Faux Leather Leggings / Sorel Suede Wedge Boots / My Bogner Ski Coat with White Fox Ruff / Givenchy Mini Satchel

The last night we had dinner at Le Hibou Blanc, a chic French bistro in the center of the pedestrian section of Megeve and close to where we stayed.  I showed it a few times in IG stories I believe.  I wore this soft and cozy black and white Fair Isle sweater with the Commando Faux Leather Leggings again and Sorel boots.  I can’t wait to wear this sweater again.  I received several compliments on it!

SKI DAY

Bogner Ski Jacket / Best Black Ski Pants

I’ve loved this Bogner Ski jacket that I purchased at Saint Bernard about 5 years ago.  It still looks brand new and is still a current style for them.  I bought new ski pants and LOVE them!  They are also North Face.  These are the Snoga pant and are high waisted with a side zip.  They come in Short, Regular and Tall which makes them the perfect ski pant for everyone!  One of my girls stole them the two days I wasn’t skiing!

I’ll also do a packing post that will live here on AWL that I’ll keep updated so that you have more inspiration when you visit this magical place!

So helpful. I would have no idea what to pack and I love all of these looks!

  2. Betty

You fit all those outfits & sweaters into a carry on?

    • Alicia

      Hi Betty!
Yes, I did! It was 14 total. Not all of them were bulky and laying them flat is the key. I have video saved on Instagram under How I pack and you can see it all in the bags on a beach trip and this one as well!

Such an incredible trip. I know you and your family had a wonderful time. Can you do a post regarding everything in your carry on bags. There is a good possibility I will be going to Paris in a few weeks and I have no idea what I should pack in a carry on bag. Thanks.

Hi! I have video saved on Instagram with everything that is packed in both bags. This post also shows pretty well what is in each bag. In the one that goes under the seat, I put skincare, snacks and the packing pouches with swimsuits, workout clothes, shoes or whatever I can’t get in the suitcase:)
