It’s crazy to think that after the past year I’m finally getting to share a packing list for Mexico with you and begin to talk a little bit more about travel! It’s been almost exactly one year since travel shut down, which is why I’m even more excited to be headed back to our happy place in Mexico: Punta Mita. We had planned to do this trip with the girls last Spring Break before Covid changed so much.
In the past 10 years, we have spent a lot of time in Punta Mita and never tire of going back. There’s just enough activity for the family and just enough relaxation for me. The scenery is beautiful and the service is fabulous. We have even shared our love of Punta Mita with my family and lots of friends. We actually traveled down there in December on a trip for one of those friend’s birthdays although I didn’t share it at the time. We felt very comfortable and very safe the entire time, which is why we are headed back for Spring Break in Punta Mita.
I have more than a suspicion that many of you are traveling on spring break as well based on the response to all of the spring style and swimwear I’ve been sharing! You all went wild over the items in the Resort Wear Update: Best Vacation Outfits and Beach Accessories post from Friday. I thought I would go ahead and share my packing list for Spring Break earlier than I typically do since so many of you are shopping now and also taking advantage of the best selection for summer.
I shared in my 11 best places to shop for swimsuits online post that Becca swim is one of my favorite brands. I’ve picked up this gorgeous blue bikini as well as this classic black. I’ll also be taking this white crochet one piece as well. I love this one shoulder version as well. I’m also packing this Bond-girl esque white bikini and the white version of one of my favorite one piece swimsuits. I will never go anywhere again without my favorite one shoulder one piece swimsuit from Summersalt, another favorite brand. They took 1.5 million measurements from 10,000 women to create the perfect swimsuits for every body.
Punta Mita in general is pretty casual. I spend most of my day in swimsuits and coverups. I picked up a new T-shirt style cover up in blue and black. These will be easy to throw over my suit for the golf cart ride to the beach clubs or lunch. I’m also taking my favorite metallic lace coverup. This is the new version and it is gorgeous. The lurex thread gives it a bit of shimmer.
For dinner, I have brought a mix of fun tops with great details like embroidery, off the shoulder, block prints and T-shirts to go with my favorite army green, white and denim shorts as well as a few dresses like this printed maxi and this flirty blue and white beauty. Lightweight dresses like this green floral Misa are my favorite for travel because they take up no room! It can be cool in the evenings so I am bringing the coral Carolina dress from my Spring Collection with Southcott. I will also wear the Zen tank and a cardigan with white jeans to travel. That will also give me light sweater for a cool evening.
I always pack a pair of wedges to wear with dresses and sometimes shorts. These and these are my favorites. I just ordered these. I’ll be taking these shimmery silver flip flops my parents gave me for my birthday and these for the beach.
And of course I’ll bring my favorite woven beach bag to carry books, sunscreen and anything else my family throws in my bag! This is the bag I bring on all our family trips as it carries so much. It’s the perfect size to fit inside my MZ Wallace bag and allows me to pack all of these things in my carry-on. Don’t forget to check out that post before you start packing for your next trip!
If you don’t want a straw bag, this coated canvas bag is the one I carry to the lake. In fact, we have three that we take back-and-forth to use on the boat. It is a fantastic bag, comes in several colors, and can be monogrammed as well. Mine are white with turquoise monograms. I’ll share how I pack the beach bag on Instagram stories later today.
I hope that gives you an idea of what I’m packing for Spring Break in Mexico and inspires you for your beach vacation. There is a new section on my website on Packing Lists to give you inspiration for all the destinations we’ve visited. I’m sure this doesn’t have to be said, but we will be taking all the necessary precautions when we fly and testing to return. We’ve done this recently and it’s so easy.
Happy packing!

Hi Doris!
I get it! I just view them like jeans and very very casually!
Have a great day!

Hi Alicia! I love your ideas for Spring Break packing! Quick question–my family is thinking of going to Southern California for Spring Break and I wanted to know if you’ve run into any travel restrictions when you visit your daughter who lives there? Do they enforce the 10-day quarantine?
Thank you!
Julie
Hi Julie!
I think the travel restrictions were if you flew in and out of LAX airport. I don’t know how strict they are. I do know things are opening up there and my daughter and her friends spend a lot of time at the beach and Santa Monica Pier skateboarding and hanging out. So glad things there are improving! Their infection rate is very low so that should be helping them open even more soon! Hope that is a bit helpful! Feel free to email anytime as well for more specifics.
