I love interior design. When we remodeled our home last year I couldn’t get enough of beautiful photographs in magazines and on Pinterest. My favorite publication is the relatively new MILIEU Magazine. If you aren’t familiar with MILIEU, I’m certain you are familiar with it’s Editor in Chief, Pamela Pierce and her work. Her exquisite designs for clients, and even her own home, have been featured many times in other national magazines.
For more than 30 years, this visionary interior designer has been creating timeless homes through her firm Pierce Designs & Associates. Her design approach is simple, always a fine study in light, scale, texture, and color. From furnishings to textiles to architectural elements, Pamela utilizes only the most natural and elegant materials. She intriguingly mixes antiques with pieces from today. Clean lines and authenticity resonate throughout all of her projects. Her influential work has been published in Veranda, Western Interiors and Southern Accents as well as in industry-relevant design books. Based in Houston, Texas, Pierce Designs’ projects are located throughout the United States.
MILIEU is a quarterly that features homes and gardens from around the world. Her keen eye and quest to find designers who have yet to be published, make MILIEU a fresh voice in shelter magazines. Innovative features such as the Profiles are my favorite. A fashion designer is chosen and they collaborate to bring that fashion element to a home design piece. This month is it was Cristina Lynch of Mi Golondrina. The results are always inspiring.
The full-page photographs are more reminiscent of a coffee table book that an editorial magazine. Peter Vitale has long photographed her projects and is an editor-at-large. I love that it is difficult to tell the advertising from the editorial pieces. No jarring contrasts here. The magazine is a visual feast for weary eyes.
Shannon Bowers personal home
I am blessed to know her daughter, Dallas-based Interior Designer Shannon Bowers and MILIEU Style Director – I’m certain her designs you also have on your Pinterest boards – and have met Pamela several times. I’m thrilled that Pamela spent a few minutes to tell us about her new endeavor, MILIEU and her holiday traditions.
Enjoy!
What moved you to begin publishing MILIEU?
I find there is nothing more gratifying than curling up with a great design magazine. Having been in the design industry for more than thirty years, I have always been fond of design publications in print, and saw a need that I felt had to be fulfilled. At that time, I knew I wanted to stay in the design industry, but wanted to do something different, which is how MILIEU came about.
What inspires your design?
I am inspired by the purity of design, whether it is in fabrics or furnishings. I am drawn to things that come from nature, such as different types of wood used in pieces of furniture or natural threads in fabrics and textiles.
Please tell us about your favorite holiday traditions.
Our family always comes together at Christmas, and our favorite traditions are holiday cooking, trimming the tree, and spending time together.
